The University of Wyoming Biodiversity Institute has opened its annual call for applications for the biodiversity graduate student research enhancement grant.
Master’s and doctoral students in good standing at UW are eligible to apply for the grant. The request for proposals will be announced Feb. 9 (today), and proposals will be due by 5 p.m. Monday, March 23. Decisions will be made by Monday, April 6, with funding available beginning Thursday, May 1.
In 2025, 13 master's and Ph.D. students studying biodiversity at UW received more than $47,000 in grants from the Biodiversity Institute.
Over the past 13 years, the Biodiversity Institute, housed under the Haub School of Environment and Natural Resources, has awarded more than 80 such grants totaling over $350,000. This grant is possible due to the support of private donors and, last year, the Haub School.
“The Biodiversity Institute is passionate about communicating the incredible research happening at UW with the public. So, one of the requirements for recipients is they have to communicate their projects with the public,” says Abbey Morales, communication and marketing specialist for the Biodiversity Institute.
Grant recipients are required to participate in a Science Cafe and other community engagement activities, including social media outreach, the Science Roadshow, K-12 education or other existing Biodiversity Institute programs. Interested students are encouraged to meet with Biodiversity Institute staff through Zoom to discuss ideas for their proposals and science communication.
